Instinct, a viral artificial intelligence startup that emerged from relative obscurity over the summer, has raised $350 million at a $2.5 billion valuation, underscoring the extraordinary levels of investor enthusiasm surrounding AI-powered personal assistants. The company, founded last year by 23-year-old Noah Shinn, announced the new funding in a Series B round co-led by Index Ventures and Benchmark. The round adds $250 million in fresh capital to Instinct’s coffers, bringing its total funding to $350 million.
The startup’s meteoric rise has been fueled by a combination of viral buzz, early user enthusiasm, and a growing belief among venture capitalists that AI agents are about to become a central part of everyday life. Instinct is not a chatbot in the traditional sense; it is positioned as a proactive assistant that can organize a user’s life by connecting to their apps and devices and communicating with them through text messages and phone calls. In a crowded field of AI assistants, Instinct has tried to stand out by being more action-oriented, helping users complete real-world tasks rather than simply answering questions.
An assistant that does things
Instinct is described by the company behind it, Spear Street Technology, as an agent that can efficiently manage daily workflows. The basic premise is straightforward: users grant Instinct access to their digital ecosystem — email, calendars, messaging apps, shopping accounts, ride-hailing services, and more — and then interact with it as they would with a human personal assistant. They can text the assistant to plan a trip, buy groceries, purchase concert tickets, or cancel unwanted subscription services.
According to founder Noah Shinn, early users have already found creative ways to put the assistant to work. In a social media post on Wednesday, Shinn said users have planned cross-country road trips, arranged weekly grocery orders, bought concert tickets, and cancelled hundreds of dollars in recurring subscriptions. He also noted that at least one user is planning their wedding with the help of Instinct. The anecdote-heavy marketing approach appears to be working, as the startup has generated significant online buzz despite being in private beta with a deliberately lo-fi website.
The funding round and valuation
The new Series B round is a signature moment for the young company. Co-led by two prominent venture capital firms, Index Ventures and Benchmark, the round places Instinct among the fastest-growing AI startups in recent memory. The $250 million infusion brings the company’s total raised to $350 million, and its valuation
